In recent days, a deeply disturbing and fabricated AI-generated video falsely portraying Sheikh Dr. Abdur Rahman Al-Sudais, the Head of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, has gone viral on various social media platforms. The distorted clip was maliciously edited to make it appear as though Sheikh Sudais was endorsing content that clearly contradicts Islamic teachings.
This deceitful manipulation, believed to be part of a wider campaign to discredit respected Imams of the Haramain in recent planned coordinated defamation campaign
In response, the General Presidency for Religious Affairs at the Two Holy Mosques issued a strongly worded statement through its official spokesperson, Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Soli, denouncing the video as entirely false and warning the public against falling for such deceptive content.
“There are no official social media accounts for any of the Imams or Khateebs of the Grand Mosque or the Prophet’s Mosque,” stated Sheikh Al-Soli. “Any content not issued through the Presidency’s verified channels is invalid and should be disregarded.”
The spokesperson highlighted that the viral clip was a clear violation of intellectual property and religious integrity, created using artificial intelligence to fabricate speech and behavior. He emphasized the danger these manipulations pose to social harmony and religious understanding, particularly when they target figures of such high spiritual authority.
The Presidency confirmed that it is taking immediate legal action against those responsible for circulating and producing the video. Furthermore, the statement urged Muslims worldwide to rely only on the official website and platforms of the General Presidency when seeking authentic information related to the Two Holy Mosques and their esteemed Imams.
Sheikh Al-Soli called on the public to be vigilant and to verify all information before sharing, especially in an era where AI tools are increasingly used to forge audio and video content with disturbing realism.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ethical challenges posed by emerging technologies and the need for heightened media literacy within the Muslim community.
Inside the Haramain stands firmly with the General Presidency in its mission to preserve the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques, protect the dignity of its religious leaders, and uphold the trust of the millions who look to them for authentic guidance.
